Time To Get Personable: Influencers Are Looking for More Than Just Money

Hi. It’s me! Paige Watts, aka, Paige Arminta. I am pretty sure 99.9% of you have no idea who I am! Well I am apart of the Wooly team, but I also run the Instagram account Paige Arminta. I have to say, I love that I get to dip my hands on both sides of influencer marketing.

Today, I want to speak to you as a micro influencer. There have been some things on my mind that I want others to know! Lots of people assume that influencers are trying to collaborate with every brand that slides into their inbox in hopes to put some money in the bank. For some that may be the case, but not all of us are after money. I took a second to really think about why I continue to create content and upkeep my social platforms. Here are a few of the reasons that popped into my head:

    • I crave new followers because I want to inspire as many people as possible.

    • I like to challenge myself to create quality content.

    • I feel accomplished when brands reach out in regards to collaborating.

    • I love nothing more than connecting and building relationships with other influencers, brands, photographers, entrepreneurs, etc. Most of my really good friends have come from being in this world.

For me, it’s not about the money, it’s how I am growing as a creator. My last bullet above mentioned building relationships. This should be everyone’s #1 priority. I cannot tell you how many emails I get that are partially automated, that have my name spelled wrong, that I know have been blasted to every other micro influencer out there. As much as I love to see emails coming in, there is nothing I hate more than getting an email that is in-genuine.

If you want to build lasting relationships with ANY influencer, you need to connect with them on a personal level. Get creative. Look through their feeds. Get to know them and what they like. When someone can captivate me with their initial outreach email, the odds are definitely in their favor!

One off campaigns are fine, but it’s flattering to know a company wants be your friend for the long haul. I am very picky when it comes to brands that I work with. I know you’re thinking, “You literally have no followers! You are not cool enough to be declining offers.” I want to work with a brand that I love, but I also want the brand to genuinely love me.

So, let me briefly reiterate. It is not always how much money you are getting paid! There are some who thrive off of creativity and long lasting relationships.

Speaking about being personal, i’m going to share my biggest pet peeve when it comes to this industry. I think many people don’t realize the work it takes to create quality content. I don’t think most brands do. Why? Because I rarely receive a “thank you”. Maybe it’s because I am a micro influencer and people don’t take me seriously, but **cough, cough** we are all human! A “thank you so much! We love how your content turned out and your post killed it!”, can go a really long way.

So there you have it. May the odds be ever in your favor...
